Work to change Banbury Road Roundabout into crossroads to take a year

Oxfordshire County Council have started work on converting the existing A4095 / B4100 Banbury Road roundabout into a signalised junction with traffic lights. The county council authorised the work claiming the new junction will improve traffic flow to cope with more vehicles due to development of 6000 new homes in the area, as well as encourage more walking and cycling.

OCC have been hosting a series of engagement events regarding the plans since 2021, which have faced strong opposition amid criticism that the crossroads could cause additional delays to journeys.

The planned work will:

  • convert the existing roundabout into a signalised junction

  • Create cycleways and pedestrian crossings at the western and southern arms of the redesigned junction

  • increase capacity

  • maintain access for drivers making a right turn from Fringford Road

  • incorporate a reduced speed limit of 30mph.

On Friday, Councillor Donna Ford provided a Keep Clear Road markings update from Facebook to provide additional assistance for residents to enter and exit the nearby Caversfield, Southwold and Bure Park estates. Temporary road markings are in place and permanent markings are expected to be in place in the next month.

The OCC website was updated with the timelines which state that construction started on 7 February 2024 and is expected to finish on 18 February 2025.
