Coming to a pothole near you: OCC funding for Bicester road surface treatment

Oxfordshire County Council and its contractor Milestone Infrastructure Ltd will be visiting more than 50 towns and villages between April 8 and June 3 to carry out surface dressing work.

The Department for Transport (DfT) is providing an additional £8.3 billion to fund resurfacing and pothole repair across the country’s road network over the next 11 years. This funding is part of a £36 billion transport improvement plan known as Network North and has been made possible by reallocated HS2 funding.

Oxfordshire County Council will receive £2,629,000 in 23/24 and 24/25, as part of this additional funding. The majority of this funding will be used to prevent potholes from occurring by carrying out additional surface treatment work across the county.

Oxfordshire County Council currently spends more than £2m per year repairing potholes and over the past couple of years has changed the way repairs are done. The vast majority (97 per cent) are now cut square, joint sealed filled and compacted, to undertake a first time permanent fix. More than 30,000 defects were repaired in the last year financial year.

Updated details about the programme, including a map showing where and when the work will be taking place, can be found on Oxfordshire County Council’s website.
